This article will show you how to take control of Control Center on iPhone and iPad. This a handy built-in feature that gives you straight access to important settings for your device from the same place, in the same way, and from any app at any time by swiping down from the top right corner on newer devices or from the bottom on older ones.
With iOS 16 and iPadOS, it’s a quick way to get to a set of device features you want to use right away without having to find the right app. You can quickly turn Bluetooth on or off, play a song, or tap and drag to change the color of the screen or the volume of the sound. Apple has added some new features to the Control Center and sped up the tailoring features in the new iOS.
The Control Center on your iPhone lets you get to tools you use often with just one tap. So, you can turn on or off Wi-Fi, turn on or off Airplane Mode, change the volume or brightness of your screen, etc. But this isn’t all it does. In the Control Center, you can add, remove, and change the order of the choices.
How to take control of Control Center on iPhone and iPad
Access Control Center
You must first know how to open Control Center. Depending on your device, the method is a little different:
- On an iPhone with a Home button (like the iPhone SE, 8, and earlier), swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
- On an iPhone with Face ID (like the iPhone X and later), swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen.
- To close Control Center, tap an empty area. Depending on your iPhone model, you may also swipe up (models with Face ID) or down (models with a Home button) to exit Control Center.
Use Control Center
It’s simple to use Control Center. You can tap, slide, or even press and hold the toggles for a long time to see more choices. For instance, if you press and hold the brightness control, it shows icons for Dark Mode, Night Shift, and True Tone. When you press and hold the flashlight button for a while, you can change how bright it is. You can also go to the official Apple support site to know more information.
The top-left group, which has Airplane Mode, Cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, is interesting because it has more options. If you hold this button down for a while, you’ll see two more choices: AirDrop and Personal Hotspot. Here, if you press and hold the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or AirDrop buttons for a while, you can choose a different Wi-Fi network, choose a different Bluetooth device, or change how AirDrop works.
Edit Control Center
By default, Control Center only gives you a few choices. But you can make it your own by adding or taking away some tools and moving the toggles around. This is how:
- Open Settings and tap Control Center.
- To remove a control, tap its red minus button (-) and choose Remove.
- To add a control from the More Controls list, tap its green plus button (+) and it will move up under Included Controls.
- If you have Home accessories, try switching on Show Home Controls at the top. This will add a space in Control Center giving you quick access to your smart accessories.
