As the story goes on, it turns out that Kratos used to work for Ares. He was tricked into killing his own family and now has terrible nightmares about them. Kratos goes through ancient Athens and other places with the Blades of Chaos, a weapon made of two daggers connected by chains. He is on a murderous mission to kill the rogue god.
The action in God of War is seen from a third-person perspective, and advanced movements like running, jumping, climbing, and swimming are similar to those in the Tomb Raider series, which is another adventure game series with strong platform-game elements. Some of Kratos’ enemies can only be killed with a mix of magic and physical attacks. This makes combat more skill-based. The story is based on Greek mythology, so players will meet a lot of Minotaurs and Hydras.

God of War: Ascension
Even though God of War: Ascension is the seventh game in the series and the last game from the Greek era, it is actually a prequel to the whole series. Ascension takes place six months after Kratos broke his blood oath to Ares. The three Furies lock Kratos up and tell him the truth about his bond with the God of War.
God of War: Ascension, which came out in 2013, is also the only game in the series with multiplayer. It had both cooperative and competitive online modes with new ways to play.
God of War: Chains of Olympus
In the first God of War game for the PSP, God of War: Chains of Olympus, Kratos has been serving the Gods for about five years. In the 2008 game, Kratos looks into why the Sun God Helios was taken, which leads him to uncover a plot in the underworld. God of War: Chains of Olympus was one of the best-reviewed PSP games of all time, and the controls got a lot of praise. It was later added to the God of War: Origins Collection for the PS3.
God of War (2005)
In God of War, the first game in this bigger-than-life series, Kratos has to kill his former master Ares after 10 years of serving the gods. To do this, he needs the hard-to-find Pandora’s Box.
God of War was the first game in the series to have combo-based hack-and-slash combat, and it is widely considered to be one of the best PS2 games. As part of the God of War Collection for the PS3 in 2009, it was remastered.
God of War: Ghost of Sparta
God of War: Ghost of Sparta is the second God-fighting game for the PSP. In it, Kratos looks for his mother to find out where he came from. Then he finds out that his brother Deimos might still be alive, but the God of Death has him locked up. Ghost of Sparta was remastered for the PS3 as part of the God of War: Origins Collection. Many people thought it was one of the best-looking PSP games.
God of War: Betrayal
God of War: Betrayal is a 2D side-scrolling game that was one of the first to try to make console games work on mobile. It follows Kratos on a bloodthirsty quest to clear his name after being framed for murder. God of War: Betrayal is canon, even though some fans thought it wasn’t. The game is hard to find these days, though. You can still get a feel for it by watching videos like the one above.
God of War 2
In God of War 2, which came out late for the PS2, an angry Kratos leads his Spartan army on a rampage across Greece. This makes the Olympians worried, which makes Zeus step in. The rest of the game is about Kratos’ quest to get back at Zeus, which leads to surprises for Kratos, the Titans, and even the Gods. God of War 2 got the same good reviews as its predecessor, so it was quickly put on the PS3 as part of the God of War Collection in 2009.
God of War 3
When the series comes to PS3, the end of the Greek era is both big and sad. In the game, Kratos goes on a soul-searching journey through the Underworld and Mount Olympus to kill Zeus after being betrayed by the Titans. He fights both Gods and Titans along the way. God of War 3 was also praised by critics. It had a new magic system and more enemies, and it was remastered for the PS4 in 2015.
God of War: A Call from the Wilds
God of War: A Call from the Wilds is a short text-based game that you can play on Facebook Messenger. It is not a full game. It is the story of Atreus’s first adventure in the Norse wilds. It is a prequel to God of War, which came out in 2018.
God of War: Mimir’s Vision
God of War: Mimir’s Vision is also not a full game. Instead, it is an augmented reality game for iOS and Android that was made to promote the 2018 God of War. If you point your camera at a flat surface, the game will load a 3D map of Midgard that you can interact with and learn more about the setting and story of the reboot.
God of War (2018)
In this classic entry, the famously angry Kratos is remade as an older, more thoughtful character trying to put his past behind him with his new wife Faye and son Atreus in the Norse world. But when Faye dies, Kratos goes on a quest to spread her ashes. Along the way, he teaches Atreus important lessons about life.
The game’s gameplay was also changed. Instead of the usual double-chained blades, the magical Leviathan Axe, an over-the-shoulder free camera, and RPG elements were added. God of War was the best-selling PS4 game and won many Game of the Year awards. It was also praised by all critics. The PC port of God of War came out in 2022.
God of War Ragnarök
God of War Ragnarok picks up where the last game left off. The prophesied Ragnarok happens as Kratos searches for the Norse God of War Tr to fight Odin and the Asgardians. How could things go wrong?

Questions and Answers
Ragnarok can be played on its own, but it’s definitely “part two”; the two games have a lot in common and tell the same epic story.
I think you should start with the first God of War if you want to play an old game. When it first came out, it was easy to look past the problems because it was new, but it is still an impressive title. But there are problems with the way things move.
The first three main games all have the same story, so you should play the first and second games (in order) before you play the third. This will help you understand the story and all of its references. I wouldn’t say it’s necessary because the game is action-based and each part can be played on its own.
God of War is a hack-and-slash action-adventure game made by Santa Monica Studio and released by Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE). It was first released on March 22, 2005, for the PlayStation 2 (PS2). It is the first game in the same-named series and the third game in order.
