If your Back Button Not Working, it can be very annoying because those are two of the most important buttons on your android and iPhone device’s navigation bar. Android is a popular operating system for smartphones, and many people use it because it works well. Still, it can also have problems. One of these is that Android’s home and back buttons don’t work. And, to be honest, without these two buttons, life can get hard.
You won’t be able to use your phone very easily. If the problem doesn’t go away, we suggest you take it to a service Centre. Since it came out in 2007, iOS has had hundreds of updates and changes. Even though iOS is the most stable and safe platform, that doesn’t mean it’s perfect. iOS can also have bugs and errors, just like Android.
But many iPhone users seem to have the same problem, even though there are different versions of iOS. If you’re here, we can assume that your iPhone’s messages app’s back button isn’t working. Because of this annoying bug, you can’t go back to the main screen and are stuck in one conversation in the app.
Fix Back Button Not Working on android
Check for a System Update
If restarting your phone doesn’t help, see if there are any updates that need to be installed. If your back button doesn’t work right because of a bug, the update might have fixed it.
Use a Third-party Back Button App
This is more of a band-aid than a fix, but if you can’t get your back button to work again, you could try using a third-party app to act like the back button. If the physical back button on your phone has stopped working, this is a great way to keep using it until you can get it fixed or replaced.
- Some of these simple apps are in the Play Store, but others are worth mentioning by name.
- Back Button (No Root) seems to be the most popular, and as the name suggests, you don’t have to “root” your phone for it to work. Even if you have a back button that works, this app’s flexibility could still be helpful.
- Another popular choice is Back Button Anywhere. It makes a floating button for going back that you can move wherever you want. The app also gives you several ways to change how it looks, and you can set the button to respond to different gestures. This app is supported by ads, so you might want to try Back Button (No Root) first.
Factory Reset Your Phone
We know we just told you not to reset your Android phone to factory settings. Still, if nothing else works, it may be your only choice. Like recovery mode, each Android phone brand and version has its own way to get to the factory reset option. Unless your phone won’t turn on, you don’t have to do it from recovery mode. You can do it in settings, but the exact place varies from app to app.
On most modern Android phones, you can just use the global search function to look for “factory reset.” We found the setting on our Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra under Settings > General Management > Reset, but your results are likely to be different.
Wiping the System Cache Partition
The system cache partition is a part of your Android’s storage where the system keeps update files and other housekeeping cache data. Most new Android phones don’t even have this partition anymore, and it’s not usually the cause of problems like this. But sometimes, corruption in the cache partition can make the system act in strange ways.
If you’re out of options, it’s not hard to delete the cache partition and it won’t hurt anything if you do. It’s impossible to give exact steps because the steps are different for every Android phone, depending on the brand and version of Android. You’ll need to look up how each step works with your phone, but here are the general steps:
- Power off the handset.
- Boot into recovery mode.
- Look for a “wipe cache” option or something similar.
Restart the Device
Even Android phones with a back button on the hardware couldn’t always handle the worst software bugs. Most software bugs can be fixed by restarting your phone, so that’s where you should start. You can also go to the official Android support site to know more information.
Fix Back Button Not Working on iPhone
Check Accessibility Settings
iOS has a lot of features to help people with disabilities use their phones, but some of these features can make it hard to find the back button.
These options can be found in Settings > Accessibility. Zoom is the first one that’s important, and Display & Text Size is the second.
Zoom makes the things on the screen bigger so they are easier to see, but if you use zoom, the back button will be out of view. You can check if Zoom is on by going to Settings > Accessibility > Zoom. If you turn it on by accident, you can turn it off by double-tapping with three fingers.
Text size is another setting that could make the back button go away. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size and make sure that Larger Text and Bold Text are both turned off.
The Messages Back Button Bug
There seems to be a bug in the Apple Messages app that sometimes makes the back button disappear. It’s not clear why this bug keeps happening, but there are only three surefire ways to fix it:
- Kill the app and restart it.
- Restart the phone or tablet.
- Check for iOS updates.
If you want to go back in Messages, you don’t have to use the back button. Instead, start at the edge of the screen and swipe from left to right across the middle of the screen. This does the same thing as the Messages back button and is a more useful (but not well-known) feature of the app.
