This helpful guide shows you how to add date and time to photos you’ve already saved on your Smartphone. A date stamp is a small piece of text that is added to an image and tells you the date the photo was taken. Some cameras have built-in options for adding a date stamp to the picture at the time it is taken. But not all cameras have a way to stamp the date.
Many people who take pictures with their phones will probably need to use third-party software and apps to add stamps to their pictures. Putting the date and time on the picture itself is a handy way to remember when it was taken.
You can check the information about your photo on most Android and iPhone, and then use image-editing tools to add the date and time. This method takes time and is a little hard to understand. It also makes it easy for someone else to change the final image, which is a security risk. We mentioned below are the steps to add date and time to photos.
How to add date and time to photos on Android
Most Android phones don’t give you the option to add a time stamp to photos you take, but some do. As we’ve already said, you can add a timestamp to Motorola G series phones (and probably other models as well), and some people say that some Samsung phones can do the same. Do the following to see if your phone has a photo stamp:
- Open your default camera app.
- Find and tap on “Settings.”
- Browse for a timestamp option. For Motorola G series phones, it’s under “Settings > Watermark.”
- Tap or slide the “Timestamp” option to the “On” position.
- Return to your camera and take a picture to verify the timestamp appears.
Adding the date and time to your photos with “Timestamp Camera Free.” Timestamp Camera Free is an app that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store for free. You can pay once to get a new version of the app that has more features. Most people don’t need anything more than what’s free.
- Access Timestamp Camera Free in the Google App Store or Timestamp Camera Basic in the iOS App Store.
- Click on “Install.”
- Allow any necessary permissions, especially to the camera (obviously).
- After all of the above permissions have been set, the app will open the “Settings” menu. If the app doesn’t open the settings menu, tap the compass in the bottom-right corner (not shown).
- Some settings require the pro version, such as “Font Color,” “Text size,” “Default font,” and a couple other options. Skip to “Step 6” if using the free version.
- Tap “Bottom Right” if you want to change the default orientation of the timestamp. “Bottom Center,” “Bottom Left,” “Top Right,” “Top Center,” “Top Left,” and “Center” are the other choices. Go to the next step or tap “OK” to save.
- Optional: Tap on the “date and time” option to adjust the displayed format. Move to the next step or Tap “OK” to save.
- Tap on the “address” option to change it to “None,” unless you want the address to appear over the photos. Move to the next step or Tap “OK” to save.
How to add date and time to photos on iphone
iOS won’t let you stamp your photos with the date and time right away. But your iPhone keeps track of when you took each picture. Every picture you take will have this Date and Time embedded in it automatically. You can change the photo, but you can’t add the date and time to it.
- Open the Gallery app on your iPhone and tap on the photo that interests you.
- Tap on the i icon.
- Tap Adjust.
- Select the date & time you’d like to set.
Here are a few apps you can try if you’d rather see your information right on your photos. Each will be a little different, but you will still be able to stamp the time and date on your photos. We’ve walked you through some of the steps, so think about which one would be easiest for you to use quickly and easily.
- First, pay and install PhotoMarks from the Apple App Store.
- Next, load an image from your phone and tap on the Text icon. Additionally, you can also take a new photo and tap on Text from the preview.
- If you tap on the Text icon, you can add a time/date stamp and change how the stamp looks. You might want to try out some of the options to see what works best for your photos or for sharing them with others. Options for customization may include:
- Position
- Rotation
- Scale
- Font
- Colors
- Transparency
- Special Effects
If you’ve tried all of these solutions and you’re still having the same problem in your iPhone, you should go to their official Apple support website for more information.
