Right out of the box, the Smart Tab M8 promises greatness. The all-glass front and slate gray aluminum back make for an incredibly attractive device, and it certainly doesn’t look cheap. The black bezels are nice and thin on the sides, while the top bezel is slightly thicker to make room for the front selfie cam. There is also a rear autofocus camera on the back, which thankfully doesn’t stick out too much, so there is little risk of scratching the lens.
Measuring 7.8 x 4.8 x 0.3 inches, this slate is incredibly travel-friendly. It will fit in most bags and, if you’re lucky, even in your pocket. And at 0.7 pounds, it’s a lightweight addition to your daily carry that you’ll hardly notice; compared to the Amazon Fire HD 8’s 7.6 x 4.5 x 0.4 inches and 0.6 pounds, the Smart Tab M8 is slimmer but feels just a bit sturdier.
After using the Smart Tab M8, my initial expectations for a great HD display were not at all met; the 8-inch, 1280 x 800 screen is certainly HD, but the colors and brightness left a bit to be desired.Netflix’s new series “The Haunting of Bly While watching the trailer for “Manor,” the daytime greens of the grounds were indeed bright and vivid, but the reds and blues all seemed a bit dull compared to images played on other devices.
The Lenovo Tab M8 HD is powered by the Mediatek Helio A22 MT6762M and 2GB of RAM. The graphics department is handled by a PowerVR-GE8320 GPU; 32GB of eMMC flash storage can be used to store data and applications and is expandable up to 2TB via a microSD card slot. Users can format the card as internal storage, although apps cannot be stored.
Users of the Lenovo Tab M8 HD will be working with Android Pie with a security patch dated August 5, 2019. At the time of testing, an update with the current security patch was not yet available; Lenovo has installed several third-party apps on board, as well as some proprietary software. The latter includes Tablet Assistant, which combines many Android features into one app. This saves users the trouble of going to the OS settings. The Tablet Manager also helps users perform system cleanups. Kids Mode allows users to set time limits in an interface specifically designed for children.
