The Lenovo IdeaPad 5 can be used at school. It is a well-made ultraportable laptop that fits easily into most bags. Its battery lasts for over 8 hours of light work. The screen gets bright enough to use in most situations, and the keyboard is comfortable enough to use for long periods of time.
Its Intel 11th Gen CPU can handle light to moderately demanding tasks, but since you can only configure the laptop with an integrated or entry-level dedicated NVIDIA graphics processor, it’s not ideal for GPU-intensive tasks like 3D animation or graphic design.
[content-egg-block template=offers_logo hide=price]The IdeaPad 5 has a matte 15.6-inch screen with a native resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. It has a good contrast ratio and a good brightness of 324.6 cd/m2 (1259:1). We liked that the display doesn’t use PWM to control how bright it is.
The screen has good colours right out of the box, but the Delta E 2000 deviation of 6.6 is a long way from the ideal (below 3) value. There’s no blue tint to the screen. Calibrating the display doesn’t make much of a difference. AdobeRGB (36% of the space) and sRGB (56% of the space) are not completely covered.
The IdeaPad 3i, like some more expensive notebooks, turns on when you open its lid instead of waiting for you to press the power button. The webcam’s 720p resolution is soft-focus as expected, but it takes images that are well-lit, colourful, and don’t have too much static.
Lenovo has kept the I/O on the new Ideapad 320 simple. Now, all the ports are on the left side of the machine, and only the DVD drive is on the right. On the left side of the device, you’ll find an ethernet jack, two USB 3.0 ports, a microphone/headphone jack combo, one USB 3.0 Type-C port, an HDMI port, and an SD card slot. Like the last time, the proprietary power port is on the left side, and the power brick is built into the plug.
Our battery test for last year’s Ideapad 310, which had a 7th-generation Intel Core i3-7100U processor and built-in graphics, lasted 4 hours. Even though the new Ideapad 320 has a power-hungry Intel Core i5-7500U processor and a separate NVIDIA GPU, it still has a battery life of 4 hours.
This model also has a screen with a resolution of 1080p. So, it seems to be a good step up from what came before. But since thin, light machines today have great battery life, it is thought that a larger 15.6-inch laptop should have even better battery life. So, even though there are some changes for the better, this popular laptop still has a ways to go.
