How to Make Windows 11 UI look like the UI of Windows 7 – Guide

Regardless, you’ve upgraded to Windows 11 or performed a clean install of Windows 11, but that doesn’t mean you need to live with every part of the new UI. Perhaps, like me, you despise the new Start Menu as it offers fewer symbols and takes up more space. Possibly you are angry because the right click menus only show about seven options at once – – not really the best seven – – and then make you click “Show more options” to see them all. Or else, you may very well need the strip back in Windows Explorer.

Below, we’ll lay out several changes to various parts of the UI, and you can use one, some, or all to get the look and feel you need.

Make Windows 11 Look Like Windows 10 (2021)

We’ve added all the ways to change the look of Windows 11 and match it with the aesthetics of Windows 10 in this guide. You can expand the table below and go to any relevant section of your choice.

  • If you want your Windows 11 PC to look like Windows 10, you should start with the Start menu. The new Start menu in Windows 11 is a complete overhaul of what we’ve seen in previous versions of Windows. It’s now centralized and offers personalized recommendations and app suggestions. So if you want to get the Windows 10 look and feel in Windows 11, please follow our steps below.
  • First, make sure you are using Windows 11 build 22000.XXX. We are going to use the StartAllBack software, and it only supports 22,000 builds at the moment. You can open the Windows Settings app and go to System -> About to find out the operating system build details.
  • Then go ahead and install the StartAllBack software (paid, $4.95 per PC) on your Windows 11 computer. Right after installation, it will automatically move the Start menu to the left corner – just like Windows 10. In addition, it will also change the icons and system tray to match the Windows 10 design.
  • Now, if you open the Start menu, it will have a Windows 10 style Start menu. To customize it further, you can open the StartAllBack app and go to the ‘Start Menu’ tab. Here, you can customize the icon size, change the visual style and much more. Keep in mind that dynamic tiles are no longer supported in Windows 11.
  • In case you’re not on Windows 11 build 22000, you can go for another similar customization program called Start11 (paid, $4.99). It works on all builds of Windows 11 and is also paid software. It’s also customizable and comes with several Windows 10-like Start menu layouts.

    • Then, if you don’t want to install any additional programs and want to move the Windows 11 Start menu to the left corner, you can do so natively. Open Settings and navigate to Personalization -> Taskbar -> Taskbar Behaviors. Here, from the drop-down menu, select “Taskbar Alignment” on the left instead of the center. That’s it. All taskbar icons in Windows 11 will instantly move to the left corner when changing this setting.

    Make the Windows 11 taskbar look like Windows 10

  • As I mentioned above, you can only change the taskbar alignment to the left of the Settings page, in line with Windows 10. For additional customization, you will again need to rely on third-party software like StartAllBack. With the help of this program you can also increase the size of the taskbar. Just open the StartAllBack program and go to the “Taskbar” tab.
  • Here, change the icon size to S, M, L or XL depending on your preference. You can also choose the Windows 10 icon to display on the taskbar to access the Start menu. Sometimes it may be necessary to restart Explorer to force changes.
  • The best part of this program is that you can disable the grouping of similar apps in the Windows taskbar 11. Click the dropdown menu next to “Combine taskbar buttons”And choose“ Never ”to make the change.
  • From now on, applications will not be combined. They will have their individual space on the Windows 11 taskbar, similar to Windows 10.

    • Move the Windows 11 taskbar to the top

  • Get the old File Explorer back on Windows 11
  • If you don’t like the new File Explorer design in Windows 11 and want to change it to the ribbon-like File Explorer that is present in Windows 10, well, we’ve helped you. Follow the steps below to bring back the old File Explorer design:
  • Press the Windows 11 keyboard shortcut “Windows + R” to open the Run window and type regedit. Then press Enter.
  • Then paste the command below into the Registry Editor address bar and press Enter.

  • Now, in the “Shell Extensions” folder, create a new key called Blocked. Right click on “Shell Extensions” in the left panel and choose New -> Key.
  • After that, go to the “Blocked” key and right click on the empty space on the right side. Here, choose New -> String Value.
  • Rename the item to the string mentioned below and save it. You don’t need to open it and set any values.

  • Now close Registry Editor and restart your PC. As soon as your PC boots up, you will find the old Windows 10 style File Explorer on your Windows 11 PC.
  • If you don’t like the new Windows 11 context menu with rounded corners and the “Show more options” button, it’s time to go back to the classic context menu we’re used to in Windows 10.
  • To make things easier, I’ve created a registry file that you can add to your computer and have the old context menu back in a few clicks. So first go ahead and download the registry file here.
  • Then right-click on the file and click “Merge“. Then click “Yes”.
  • Now restart your computer and you’ll see that Windows 11 PC is one more step closer to looking more like Windows 10 with the classic context menu.
  • If you want to revert the changes, press the keyboard shortcut “Windows + R” to open the Run window. Type regedit and press Enter.
  • Then paste the command below into the Registry Editor address bar and press Enter.

  • Now, delete, right-click on the entry “586118283” and delete it. Restart your computer and the Windows 11 context menu should be back.

    • Disable Windows 11 widgets panel

  • Widgets are a new addition to Windows 11, but many users don’t like it. feature because it has lots of features and is a revamped version of MSN News and the News & Weather widget recently introduced in Windows 10. So if you want to get rid of the Widgets panel and make Windows 11 more like Windows 10, follow the steps below :
  • Open the Settings app and go to Personalization -> Taskbar.

    • Disable transparency effects in Windows 11

  • Windows 11 comes with a Mica transparency effect which is really cool. However, some users don’t like transparent windows and want a solid background. So if you’re one of those users, you can turn off the transparency effects and make Windows 11 more like Windows 10.
  • To do this, open Settings and go to Personalization -> Colors.
  • In the “Colors” section, disable the toggle for “Transparency effects“.
  • Then navigate to Settings -> Accessibility -> Visual Effects. Again, disable the “Transparency Effects” toggle button. You finished.
