When we first looked at the original Lypertek PurePlay Z3 true wireless earbuds, which were called the Lypertek Tevi, we were blown away. We couldn’t believe that a pair of headphones that sounded so good and had such a long battery life could be sold for such a low price and be made by a company we had never heard of. They were so good that we named them the best headphones of the year and put them on our list of the best truly wireless earbuds.
Two years later, we now have the Lypertek PurePlay Z3 2.0 true wireless earbuds, which are their replacements. They are very similar to the originals, but with a few key improvements. They still cost $99/£99, which is a reasonable price. This gives you everything we liked about the original PurePlay Z3 (detailed, balanced sound, a huge 80-hour battery life from its small USB-C charging case, and a comfortable fit with physical buttons) and adds wireless charging.

Lypertek PurePlay Z3 2.0: Design
From the outside, there doesn’t seem to be much difference between the Lypertek PurePlay Z3 2.0 and its predecessors, the 1.0 models. This is a good indicator of the product as a whole, since it’s mostly a refinement of the original, rather than a completely new path.
Again, there are round, stemless earbuds inside a pill-shaped, fabric-covered case with a holding strap that can be removed. The PurePlay Z3 2.0 comes in both white and black, and each has a USB-C port for charging and four LED lights that show the battery level. The earbuds snap into the case magnetically, which starts charging them from the case’s own battery. When you take the earbuds out of the case, the Bluetooth connecting process begins. Lypertek PurePlay Z3 2.0: Sound Quality
The Lypertek PurePlay Z3 2.0 are a flexible pair of earphones that will sound great no matter what kind of music you listen to because they are clear and well balanced. They are very accurate, and they don’t push the bass too hard or make the highs sound too loud. Some people might like a more lively sound, but if you want realism, these will work. You can switch to the LDX audio mode in the app for a little more depth and clarity. We found that it made the song we were listening to sound a lot more upbeat.
Lypertek PurePlay Z3 2.0: Software
You could download an Android or Apple app called PureControl, which gives the Pureplay Z3 2.0 some extra features, to make the graphene driver work better. This model could also get software updates through the app, but none were available when this article was written. In addition to the 7-band equalizer with personal presets and a few other features, I liked the LDX tool the most. LDX replaces the equalizer and gives you a single sound setting that is unique for your model. It makes the sound a little bit more midrange-forward, and I heard a little more width.
Price and Availability
The Lypertek PurePlay Z3 2.0 costs $89 in the US, £99 in the UK, and AU$130 in Australia. It can be bought from a number of stores, including Amazon. Prices will change, though, so look at the widgets to find out how much they cost in your area right now.
Final Words
Some things that the Lypertek PurePlay Z3 2.0 does really well, and some things that it does not do so well. The sound quality is great for a pair of true wireless earbuds that costs less, and the battery life is great, so you won’t have to charge them very often. But we didn’t find them to be very comfy, and they don’t have noise-canceling technology built in, which are both pretty big issues.
