This article will show you how to Make Your Mac’s Cursor Bigger. Some people may find it hard to find small things on their Mac screen, like a mouse cursor or pointer. This could be because they have trouble seeing or because there are so many other things on the screen at once. No matter what the reason is, making your cursor bigger can help keep your eyes from getting tired and save you time that you could use for more important chores. Here’s how to make the pointer bigger on your Mac.
If you can’t see the Mac cursor on your screen when you move the mouse or trackpad, or if you’d just rather have a bigger cursor pointer in general, it’s easy to change the size of the cursor directly in MacOS. You can make the mouse pointer bigger in macOS so that it’s easy to see. Even though it’s mostly for people who have trouble seeing, anyone can use it to make the pointer easier to see. We use this feature when we are making hands-on tutorials for our YouTube channel to show features in a clear way.
How to Make Your Mac’s Cursor Bigger
- Launch System Preferences from your Mac’s Dock, from the Applications folder, or from the Apple menu bar ( -> System Preferences…).
- Click the Accessibility preference pane.
- In the side column, under “Vision,” click Display.
- Click the Pointer tab in the window of options.
- Drag the slider labeled “Pointer size:” further to the right of the scale to make the cursor bigger. You should see the change take effect immediately.
Key features of cursor
- Some people call the cursor a “arrow” or “mouse pointer.” When you move the mouse around the screen, it usually looks like an arrow or pointer.
- But when the cursor is over changeable text, like text boxes on websites or in Word documents, it changes into a text cursor called a “text select” or “i-beam.” This shows that it’s a place for writing. The i-beam can be hard to see at times, but it can be changed as shown in the rest of this lesson.
- When the cursor moves over a hyperlink or link on a page, it also changes. It will turn into a hand when you can click on the link to go to another page.
- When you click in a place where you can type to enter text, the cursor will change to a text cursor, which is a vertical line that flashes to show where the next letter will go. If this is hard to see and you are using a Windows PC, go to the Start Menu/Control Panel/Ease of Access/Ease of Access Center/make the computer easier to see/set the width of the blinking cursor. Then you can change how thick the straight line is to suit your needs.
- There are also different cursors you can use in Windows to make things easier to see or just to change things up. On a Windows PC, you can find these by going to Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Mouse and Pointers. From here, you can pick pointers of different sizes, styles, and types. “Normal Select” is the normal type of pointer, “Link Select” is the hand that shows up on websites, and “Text Select” is the cursor that shows up over editable text. These are the most common types that people want to change or make bigger or smaller.
What are cursors used for?
Cursors are often used to make writing or other things on the screen stand out so they can be chosen. In a word processor, for example, the cursor can be used to pick text, change how it looks, and add new text. With the cursor in a computer browser, you can click on links and scroll through pages. In many cases, the person can also change the cursor to make it work better for them. For example, some users may want a bigger cursor that is easier to see, while others may want a smaller cursor that takes up less room on the screen.
