The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro and Sony WF-1000XM4 are premium true wireless earbuds with great sound and functionality. Both models have pros and cons. Samsung’s latest earbuds, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, include a sleek appearance, active noise cancellation, wireless charging, and a companion app that allows you personalize the sound profile. The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro has better water resistance and battery longevity than its predecessor. The Buds 2 Pro’s touch controls may be confusing, and its range is small compared to comparable earbuds.
However, the Sony WF-1000XM4 is an innovative earphone with great noise-canceling, a long battery life, and smart functions. Its ergonomic design and adjustable touch controls make it comfortable and secure. Speak-to-chat and adaptive sound management are also available on the WF-1000XM4. The WF-1000XM4 is costly and may look less elegant than competing earbuds. The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro or Sony WF-1000XM4 depends on personal liking and priorities.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro vs Sony WF-1000xm4: Design
We had a lot of reasons to suggest the WF-1000XM3, but “discretion” was not one of them. The earbuds were big, and so was their charging case. Sony was smart to try to make this new model a little bit smaller. The charging case has shrunk by 40%, and the earbuds themselves have shrunk by 10%. The fact that they’re still one of the heavier models of this type shows how big the WF-1000XM3 were, but at least the new charging case could fit in a trouser pocket and the earbuds don’t stick out of the wearer’s head like a prop from a science fiction movie.
Samsung says the shape is 15% smaller than the Galaxy Buds Pro, but the size and weight are pretty much the same. They have a bigger wind shield and more responsive touch controls, but their looks are limited to an oval form that sticks out and a black air vent on top. The Galaxy Buds 2 and Buds Pro both have better construction than the Buds. The all-plastic exterior has a nice soft-rubberized finish and feels solid. Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro vs Sony WF-1000xm4: Audio Performance
Setting up the WF-1000XM4 takes a little longer than it should. We found them a little hard to put in, and we thought they should fit deeper in the ear than they do. However, once you have them in place, you can adjust the touch controls, the EQ levels, and the many other options to your liking. It’s time to put on some music. We started our testing with a Tidal Masters file of “Burner” by Ross from Friends, and the WF-1000XM4 instantly impressed us.
Samsung put the best audio innovations in the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. These include 360 Audio, 24-bit HiFi Sound, Bluetooth 5.3 (LE Audio-Ready), Samsung Scalable Codec (SSC), which changes the bitrate dynamically from 88kbps to 512kbps, and a unique coaxial 2-way speaker tuned by AKG, an audio company owned by Samsung. Other high-end wireless earbuds don’t have such a wide range of audio specs. When you listen on a Galaxy smartphone, the sound is fuller and wider.
Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro vs Sony WF-1000xm4: Battery life
Don’t worry too much about how long the battery will last. The case for Sony’s new headphones is smaller, but the XM4 has a longer battery life than the XM3. You can now use the earbuds for eight hours with noise cancellation and Bluetooth turned on, and Sony says the case can charge them for another 16 hours. That means that their battery life on a single charge is better than that of all big competitors. The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 can last for seven hours, while the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II can last for six hours.
It’s too bad that Samsung’s noise-canceling headphones only have a short ANC life. With ANC turned on, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro are listed to last 5 hours, which is only 30 minutes longer than the AirPods Pro. If you turn off ANC, the battery will last for 8 hours longer. But if you turn up the volume or use special functions, these times are cut by 1 to 2 hours. You might get two days if you only use it for two hours a day.
Which one should you buy?
The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro and the Sony WF-1000XM4 are great true wireless earbuds, but each has its own pros and cons. In the end, the choice between the two depends on what you want and how important it is to you. If you want advanced features like water resistance, wireless charging, and a customizing app, the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro might be a better pick. If advanced noise cancellation, a longer battery life, and smart features like speak-to-chat and adaptive sound control are important to you, the Sony WF-1000XM4 may be a better pick.
