These days, everything costs a lot. At the grocery store near us, a pound of Cheetos® costs $9. A pound of corn chips costs $9. Even the A/V world isn’t safe from this. The prices are based on the cost of fuel to ship goods to stores and customers, as well as the cost of shipping parts to factories. Parts come from many different places.
Whoever wants to start building a hi-fi system with a home theatre in mind, where should they look first? It is hard to get a pair of speakers. You don’t want to waste money on something that you might have to throw away when your system grows.

Where to get Focal Aria 906?
You can spend a lot of money on speakers, but if you are just starting out, now is not the time. Bookshelf speakers (mounted on stands) are a good place to look. They won’t cost as much as a floor-standing model of the same product line. They will not take up much room. When you set up a home theatre, you can use them as surround channel speakers.
The 900 series is the first model from Focal. The ARIA 906s are two-way monitor speakers that are placed on stands. The tweeter has an inverted-dome shape and is made of aluminium and magnesium. People say that inverted domes are better at controlling how sound is compressed. The cone of the 6-1/2″ flax-fiberglass mid-bass driver is made of flax. The case has ports and a real walnut veneer, but you can also choose from other finishes. The pair that was sent for review had a walnut finish.
The binding posts are made of plastic, and the plugs can be taken off so that banana plugs can be used. There are no options for bi-wiring or bi-amping, but for such small speakers, that’s not really needed. You can see an opening at the top of the stand where the speaker cable would come out if you wanted to run it through the stand.
The speakers came with a pair of Focal S-900 speaker stands. They are made for the ARIA 906 speakers and are a good idea since you probably will need stands. If you want to get big speakers for the front left and right channels of your home theatre, you can put them to the side or back. The price per pair is $589. Different places sell speaker stands for less money.
