More people than ever are working from home, so a good, reliable webcam is important. The Logitech C920s HD Pro is just that. This plug-and-play webcam is easy to use and has video and sound that are very clear. It can be used to make video calls, stream videos, or catch up with friends and family online.
The Logitech Capture software lets you adjust different settings for more precise control. This small update to the C920 adds a privacy cover, which is a good, if a bit flimsy, thing to have. It doesn’t have any flashy features, and the frame rate might not be high enough for serious video producers and streamers, but there are no real flaws to speak of. At this price, there’s nothing better than the Logitech C920s in terms of picture and sound quality.
[content-egg-block template=offers_logo hide=price]You can’t miss the C920 when it’s hooked up to your laptop or monitor. It’s a big, black box. It is 3.7 inches wide at its widest point. But inside all of that bulk is a 1080p camera with LEDs and microphones on either side. The camera has an arm that wraps around the back of your monitor or the top of your laptop. The C920 also has a hinge that lets you change the length of the arm and a rubber foot that keeps it from moving.
If you don’t want the webcam to be above the monitor, you can use the tripod mount built into the camera to attach it to any stand you want. On the back of the webcam is a USB cord that is 6 feet long, which should be more than enough to connect it to your laptop or desktop.
You can use the camera to video-chat at 1080p (Logitech notes that the webcam can support Facetime for Mac only at 720p). Even though the colours weren’t as true to life as they were in the photos and the lights were a little too bright, you could still see a lot of detail in my face and the room. The 78-degree field of view of the C920 is more than enough to fit a second person or a big object into the picture. Most webcams built into laptops can only show the torso of a single person.
The camera is only 2 megapixels, which isn’t enough for a big screen, but the software does a good job of making the image big enough for the big screen. The camera also does a great job of keeping the white balance correct in many different kinds of light. As soon as you plug the USB 2.0 cable into the computer, the Logitech C920 Pro HD Webcam starts working. When we opened an app like Photobooth, everything worked fine.
