How to Fix Messages App’s Chat Features (RCS) Not Connecting Issue on Android – Guide
RCS is considered the successor to SMS, but it is far from a perfect system. Currently, you may experience various issues with service disconnection, connection failure, etc. Fortunately, there are some fixes you can try if you are in this situation. Recently I have been dealing with such a problem. Over the course of four days I was without access to RCS (also known as Google Chat or features) during that time many of my posts went into an abyss, never seen by the human eye.
I found a bunch of different fixes. I also spoke to Google Pixel support and tried a few more. After all, there are many things you can try. If none of that works, the core option is to completely disconnect RCS/Google Chat on the server side. But let’s not guess here, let’s see first how to check the status of Google Chat functionality.
Steps to Fix Chat Features Google Messages not connecting issue
Clear data from carrier services and Google messaging apps. Deleting app data in Carrier Services and Google Messages app may resolve the issue that says “Trying to verify your number…” on the RCS settings page. Follow the steps below to clear data from both apps.
Uninstall Carrier Services Update
If an update corrupts the carrier services data then it will cause the connection issue in Google Messages Chat features (RCS). Therefore, uninstalling the Carrier Services update and installing the new update will resolve the issue. To do this, follow the steps below.
If your carrier supports RCS, you will receive the chat feature on your android phone.
Google Messages Beta Program Enrollment
After installing the beta update and if your carrier supports RCS, you will receive the chat feature on your android phone.
enable chat Features
If the above methods don’t help you, try enabling chat features under Messaging for the web. This is a temporary fix and may work for you.
