How to Merge Photoshop Layers – Guide
A popular way to work non-destructively in Photoshop is to merge our existing layers with a new layer on top. By merging layers into a separate layer, we can enhance the entire image or make other changes without flattening the image and throwing away all existing layers. But even merging layers into a new layer is still not the best method. Every time we need to make changes to the layers below, we need to delete the merged copy, make our changes, and merge the layers again.
A better way is to bundle our layers together as a smart object. That way, if we need to make a change, we can simply edit the contents of the Smart Object, save the change, and have our changes appear in the document immediately. And since we’re working with smart objects, all filters we apply are added as smart filters, which means we can enhance the image or make other changes non-destructively. Let’s see how this works.
